- At the 2010 Beijing Hearing Forum and Audiology Education Seminar in October, an editor of the Journal of Audiology and Speech Pathology invited us to write a paper on audiology education in Australia. This paper may be seen as a useful reference for those who arc contributing to the development of audiology education in China. In order to review the development of audiology education in Australia, it is necessary to review the development of audiology in Australia. They are closely related to each other. Australia plays a leading role in Audiology in the world. The National Acoustic laboratories in Australia is one of the largest hearing research institutes in the world and Australian Hearing is one of the largest hearing service organizations in the world. The development of audiology in Australia was crucial to the success of cochlear implant research and production in Australia. In developed countries, Australia is one of the countries with the largest number of audiologists per capita. A survey in 2008 reported the figure of number of people per audiologist in each country, and among them were Australia at 15178, the USA at 19603, the UK at 26334, and Canada at 28645. The development of audiology education in Australia should not be separated from the history of Australian audiology, which started during the World War II.
